Murray hat-trick powers St Vincent’s

From the opening whistle, Vincent’s used the midfield trio of Paddy O’Connor, Peter Kelly and John Cosgrove to boss possession and establish a hold on the game. The pressure paid off when Ronan Murray finished smartly from a driven corner to open the scoring and then added a second from close range a short while later, following good work from Gavin Kane. John Cosgrove volleyed home a third from 25-yards, a stunning strike that ended the game as a contest. Ronan completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time, rising above the helpless defenders to power home a header from a corner. A fantastic half of football filled with aggressive defending, sharp interplay and ruthless finishing.

The scoring cooled off in the second-half, though there was time for one more. University College Dublin (UCD) medical student Paul Carroll played Fionn Nally in down the right and the Vincent’s intern applied a finish off the outstretched leg of a desperate defender. Trinity got a consolation with a late penalty to make the final score 5-1. Andrew Delaney was a rock in central defense, while Darren McMahon bombed up and down the line from left back.

Unbeaten in 11 league games, the team are in a rich vein of form coming into the closing stage of the season.

No surprise to see Ronan Murray named man of the match. Along with a trinity of goals, the Tallaght GP expertly linked play between midfield and the front three. He is a master at taking the ball to feet with a defender at his back and consistently found teammates in dangerous areas.
