A game for all seasons
Winter has well and truly come — the clocks have fallen back, the mornings are crisp, and Sunday evenings are sound-tracked by the noise of rain pounding against bedroom windows. It changes the complexion of the amateur football season dramatically. Although we can call upon excellent all-weather surfaces to train and play home games on, the Irish elements create a varied and at times challenging environment in which to play. Of course, the top domestic level of the sport in this country somewhat controversially avoids this time of year — only Sweden, Estonia, Norway and Iceland’s top divisions operate the same ‘Summer football’ system employed in the League of Ireland.
Recruitment
As ever, training takes place in St Kilian’s German College, Clonskeagh, from 8:15pm on Wednesdays, starting on the hockey surface, before moving onto the 4G astroturf from 9pm. New recruits are always welcome to come along and give training a go!
