The e-health directors working across the six new health regions will report directly to their Regional Executive Officer (REO), a HSE spokesperson has told the Medical Independent. However, the spokesperson added that “e-health is nationally led” with one uniform policy and one mandated approach to any issue led by the Chief Technical and Transformation Officer.
As of last month, four e-health regional directors were in place on fixed-term contracts, the HSE stated. These directors were in situ in HSE Dublin and South East; HSE Dublin and Midlands; HSE West and North West; and HSE South West.
“The other two regions (HSE Dublin and North East and HSE Mid West) do not have e-health directors appointed as of today, these appointments will be managed by the relevant REO,” the HSE’s spokesperson added.
Clarification regarding the “reporting line” for the regional e-health leads was sought at an internal meeting earlier this year.
The new model for e-health across the six health areas was discussed at a meeting of the Executive’s technology and transformation committee in January. Committee members “sought clarification” on the reporting line for the regional e-health leads, according to meeting minutes.
Earlier this year the HSE announced the appointment of the REOs. These are Ms Sara Long in HSE Dublin and North East; Ms Martina Queally in HSE Dublin and South East; Ms Kate Killeen White in HSE Dublin and Midlands; Mr Tony Canavan in HSE West and North West; Dr Andy Phillips in HSE South West; and Ms Sandra Broderick in HSE Mid West.
