Medical Council achieves international quality accreditation

By Mindo - 21st Jan 2020

Pictured are CEO of Health Care Informed (HCI) Mr John Sweeney (left) and Medical Council CEO Mr Bill Prasifka holding a certificate of international accreditation for the Council’s assessor training programme, awarded by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) External Evaluation Association (IEEA). The Medical Council has become the first regulatory body in the country to achieve this international accreditation. The Council is responsible for the quality assurance role in medical undergraduate and postgraduate training in Ireland. This involves an assessor team, typically made up of Council members and experts in medical education, being trained to objectively evaluate the colleges and hospitals providing this training. The assessors’ training programme has been developed in conjunction with HCI, a Galway-based company.
