The board of the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) is currently finalising an organisational artificial intelligence (AI) technology policy, the Medical Independent (MI) has learned.
A discussion took place on the development of an AI policy at a meeting of the organisation’s audit and risk committee in September 2024.
The Director of ICT, Mr Eoin Darcy, remarked at the meeting that AI could be useful “in the issuance of first drafts of policies, reports, and memos”, the minutes stated.
At a separate meeting of the NTPF board, in September 2024, it was noted that “the ICT director is reviewing the options available and will submit a note to the board on opportunities and risks associated with AI minute-taking software”.
An NTPF spokesperson told MI that it is “currently finalising an organisational AI technology policy” but declined to provide further information on its plans.
Meanwhile, at the same board meeting in September 2024, a discussion ensued on press cuttings about the NTPF.
The board asked the executive to consider introducing a media monitoring service to provide “more detail and context on the media articles circulated”.
However, the spokesperson said that “after reviewing and considering the options available, the NTPF did not acquire a dedicated media monitoring service”.
