Progress on the development of the New Children’s Hospital (NCH) and the National Maternity Hospital (NMH) is being “monitored” by a new HSE committee.
The HSE strategy and reform committee held its first meeting in December. The committee’s role is to “provide assurance” to the HSE board on strategic priorities in the corporate plan.
The two hospital projects were raised at the committee’s first meeting.
Members discussed the “requirement” for the committee to monitor the development of the NCH and the NMH. Mr Damien McCallion, HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer and Deputy CEO, who attended the meeting, agreed that both projects should be “focus areas” for the committee.
A HSE spokesperson told the Medical Independent the NCH and NMH are standing agenda items for the committee, with members receiving briefings on both projects.
In 2024, the HSE board undertook a review of its subcommittees and now has three. It was agreed that two new committees would be established – the performance committee and the strategy and reform committee. These would integrate the work of the former safety and quality committee, people and culture committee, planning and performance committee, and technology and transformation committee.
The audit and risk committee was established under the Health Act 2004 and its terms remain unchanged following the board’s review.
