Beaumont Hospital has formally announced plans to commence construction of the long-awaited Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Unit.
The development comes following calls from charity Cystic Fibrosis Ireland for Government to honour its pledge made three years ago to build a new, dedicated unit for patients.
Documents recently released by the hospital show that it is currently seeking an architect-led multidisciplinary design team to commence work on the unit’s development.
Planning permission for the three-story block extension has already been attained based on indicative design plans.
Construction work, when commenced, will take about 20 months, but the entire project is expected to take four years to complete, according to tender documents released by the hospital.
The documents do not reveal the total project spend, but it is estimated the unit will cost €12 million.
The unit is expected to “further the objectives of the National Clinical Care Programme for Cystic Fibrosis”, according to the hospital.
