The HSE South-West region is seeking an agency to implement a “compassionate” leadership programme, which will have an initial budget of €150,000 excluding VAT.
The contract will last from October to December 2024, with an option to extend to December 2026.
According to recently published tender documents, Dr Andy Phillips (PhD), Regional Executive Officer of the region, expressed the intention to procure a company to deliver a training and development programme focused on combining compassionate leadership, kind management, and quality improvement (QI).
The tender also encompasses plans to implement a QI programme, featuring a QI framework and accessible training.
The successful applicant will be expected to provide e-learning tools to help senior leaders in the region understand the approaches and core skills essential for sustaining culture change.
Additionally, the company will be asked to develop a programme for senior managers focused on structured feedback processes to identify areas for development.
The programme will begin with 30 leaders. Each leader will receive four days of in-person training over an eight-week period to be completed by the end of 2024. The HSE South-West will provide the training venues.
“When healthcare staff work in kinder cultures not only does their wellbeing improve, but patient wellbeing does also,” according to the tender.
“When people experience kindness in stressful clinical situations, they deliver better outcomes. And being kind has its benefits: People who show kindness to others are calmer, happier, more productive and less stressed.”
The successful applicant should demonstrate a track record of delivering high-quality training and development programmes within the healthcare sector, particularly in leadership and operational management within the past three years.
The budget for the initial programme, including training and appraisals, is €150,000 excluding VAT. The HSE will cover fees on behalf of its employees.
The deadline for the tender is Friday 4 October.
