Work on New Children’s Hospital continues despite Covid-19

By Mindo - 23rd Mar 2020

Construction work on the New Children’s Hospital is continuing, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, this newspaper has been told.

When asked whether the current Covid-19 pandemic may lead to changes in the timetable for the major project, a hospital spokesperson said that the work is continuing.

“Construction work is continuing on the site of the new children’s hospital and the main contractor has informed the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board (NPHDB)  that HSE working practice protocols and guidelines regarding Covid-19 are being adhered to,” a spokesperson for the Board told the Medical Independent  (on Monday 23 March).

“The main contractor has responsibility for all health and safety matters on the construction site.”

The hospital is being built on St James’s Hospital site in Dublin.

The main contractor is the company BAM.

Separately today Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald said  she believed that all non essential business should be shut down to prevent workers being at risk.
