Transfer of GP training suspended until IR issues resolved

By Mindo - 28th May 2018

The AGM agreed that a final agreement on the transfer of training will be formally approved at an EGM convened by the board. This followed a motion proposed by the board.

Meanwhile, the College has released a statement welcoming “the clarity now brought by the outcome of the referendum on the repeal of the Eighth amendment to the Constitution”.“

The ICGP awaits the passing of amending legislation for the management of crisis pregnancy,” according to the statement. “As recommended by the report of the Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment, legislation must be accompanied by measures and policies which will seek to address and minimise crisis pregnancies, including comprehensive contraceptive services and sexual health education programmes.

“More detailed information will need to be gathered to inform legislators, and to enable the Department of Health, together with the post-graduate training bodies and the representative bodies, to comprehensively draw up the detail and resourcing of services for those with crisis pregnancies.

”Two motions on abortion services were deferred to Council at the AGM on Saturday as it was felt it was the wrong day to highlight concerns regarding resourcing and training. The annual conference had its biggest attendance to date with over 450 members attending, which is double the number on last year.“This year’s annual conference stands out as a really successful one, and we were very pleased to see so many new and younger members attend, along with our colleagues and regular attendees,” said new ICGP President Dr John O’Brien.
