The Sudanese Doctors Union of Ireland (SDUI) will hold a fundraising cyclothon this Thursday (5 December) in aid of those impacted by the war in Sudan.

The event takes place in the Cork University Hospital between 9am and 3pm at the Coffee Doc located in the hospital’s cardiac renal centre.

SDUI members are raising money to help provide food and shelter for those affected by the war in Sudan. People are encouraged to drop by any time on Thursday and cycle to show support.

The war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces militia erupted in April 2023. It has led to the largest internal displacement crisis in the world, famine conditions in areas of the country, and over 25 million people (more than half of the population) needing humanitarian assistance.

The SDUI held its 5th Annual Symposium in Dublin in October with a theme of  ‘Healthcare rising from the ashes’. The event was opened by SDUI President Mr Yassir Hamad and featured updates from Sudanese medical diaspora from around the world, clinical presentations, and a series of talks on the impacts of the ongoing conflict, particularly in regard to healthcare.
