New IHCA awards to recognise ‘outstanding achievements’ of consultants

By Reporter - 11th Sep 2024

The IHCA has announced the creation of new awards recognising the outstanding achievements of consultants in the areas of research, innovation and clinical practice in the Irish health service.

The inaugural IHCA President’s Awards will be presented at the Association’s upcoming Annual Conference and AGM, which this year takes place on Saturday 12 October at Mount Juliet Estate, Kilkenny.

Consultant members of the IHCA are invited to nominate a consultant colleague for these new awards by submitting a brief outline of their colleague’s project or work, in 500 words or less.

Nominees can be entered into three specific categories: research; innovative work; or clinical practice. Submissions should state under which of the above categories the entry is being made. Consultants should also include their full name, the nominee’s full name, specialty, and work location when submitting entries.

Free to enter, applications are open until Friday 20 September 2024. Submissions can be sent by email to c.boylan@ihca.ie.

Commenting on the new awards, IHCA President Prof Gabrielle Colleran said “every new treatment or procedure in our health service, every innovative protocol or research development, starts with a good idea that has been proven in practice”.

“We know that many Irish consultants are bringing such good ideas to full fruition, and by doing so are contributing significantly to the improvement of the health of their patients and to the efficiency of healthcare delivery in this country. These new President’s Awards will acknowledge and celebrate the important work being carried out by so many of our consultant leaders in the Irish health service.”
