According to a Council statement issued today: “The Returning Officer having received no nominations in this category, hereby extends the deadline for receipt of nominations from any medical practitioner practising medicine in the State, registered or able to be registered in the category of the Specialist Division in relation to pathology or radiology, to 1pm Wednesday 28 February 2018.
“The Returning Officer hereby requests nominations from any registered medical practitioner practising medicine in the State, registered or able to be registered, in the Specialist Division in relation to pathology or radiology, who may wish to stand for election for appointment to the Medical Council.”
Nominations for the other categories have closed and nominated candidates can be viewed on the Medical Council website.
To be eligible for election a person must be a registered medical practitioner practising medicine in the State (but excluding any visiting EEA practitioner) on 27 February 2018, this being the day preceding the extended last day for receiving nominations. Nomination of a candidate shall be subscribed by 10 other registered medical practitioners.
Nomination papers should be returned to the Returning Officer, Offices of the Medical Council, Kingram House, Kingram Place, Dublin 2, D02 XY88. The extended closing date for receipt of nomination papers in this category is Wednesday, 28 February 2018 at 1pm.
If there is more than one nominated candidate an electronic poll shall be taken. The period during which votes may be received by the Returning Officer will commence at 12 noon on Thursday 1 March and close at 12 noon on Thursday 21 March 2018.
