By Mindo - 13th Mar 2020

The Mental Health Commission has written directly to all approved centres requesting that they notify the Commission of any confirmed or suspected cases of Covid-19.

All centres have been put on notification of changes in the inspection process and that for now, all physical inspections of approved centres are suspended. The Mental Health Commission will have oversight of approved centres and office based monitoring will continue.

“The Mental Health Commission and the Inspector of Mental Health Services continues to follow public health advice set out in relation to any required precautions regarding the novel coronavirus,” according to the Commission.

The Commission is also in communication with senior HSE officials and senior staff in the voluntary / private approved centres in relation to the holding of mental health tribunals. Where there is no indication of COVID-19 in an approved centre, the tribunals will continue as usual.  Where there is a suspected or confirmed case, alternative arrangements are being agreed in relation to the holding of tribunals.
