The Eye Care in Focus Conference, hosted by the Irish College of Ophthalmologists, took place on Tuesday 1 October at The Gibson Hotel, Dublin.
The annual clinical education meeting is designed for the multidisciplinary eye care team working across community and hospital care in Ireland. It provides an opportunity for ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptists, ophthalmic nurses, and technicians to come together to discuss current eye care pathways and developments and facilitates a forum for shared learning across the disciplines.
The 2024 conference programme included dedicated sessions on paediatric ophthalmology; cataract care; sustainability in eye care; and an update from Ms Aoife Doyle, HSE National Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology.
Guest speaker was Prof John Nolan, Director of the Nutrition Research Centre Ireland at the South East Technological University. Prof Nolan discussed the role and evidence for targeted nutrition to improve visual function and also outlined plans for a new school of optometry at South East Technological University in Waterford
